We know that digital solutions have been growing exponentially, and so has their environmental footprint. The internet has led to a great deal of this growth, and this has gone in-step with the growth in open source software. There are a number of new initiatives to help track the environmental impact of our digital world. Even better, there are a several that have been actively developed which are under a permissive license. More is needed though to ensure that public code is being built in a way which does not contribute to climate change.
